I often get asked which label printer can print QR Codes so I decided to do a review and explanation of QR Code Printer’s. The Argox O4-250 and the Argox CP-2140EX are two examples that will be discussed.
What is QR Code
QR is the abbreviation of “Quick Response”. The QR Code is a symbology of the 2D Barcodes, meaning it is just a form of 2D barcode that can easily be read by any 2D enabled barcode scanner.
The QR Code can hold much more data than the linear or 1D barcodes that you find on commercial products. They can store data including url links, geo coordinates, and text.
QR Code Printer
The majority of the new label printers from Argox can print 1D and 2D barcodes which include QR Code.
The printers can print the following barcodes:
|1D Barcodes||UPC-A, UPC-E, JAN/EAN, CODE39, CODE93, CODE128, GS1-128 (UCC/EAN128), CODABAR (NW-7), ITF, Industrial|
2of5, MSI, UPCadd-on code, POSTNET, GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional, GS1 DataBar Truncated, GS1 DataBar Stacked,
GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirecional, GS1DataBar Limited, GS1 DataBar Expanded, GS1DataBar Expanded Stacked
|2D Barcodes||QR Code, PDF417 (includingMicroPDF), DataMatrix (ECC200), GS1 DataMatrix, MaxiCode|
The CP-2140EX is an ideal entry level Barcode Sticker Printer that comes standard with a built in Ethernet card port together with the standard USB and Serial (RS232) ports.
The CP-2140EX comes with Bartender UL label design software which enables you to create labels with Text, simple graphics and 1D, 2D and QR Codes. Also included are the Drivers and Print Tools. These come on a CD in the box or can be downloaded from this site.
Thermal Transfer Printing Mode
In this mode the printer uses a ribbon to print on the paper labels offering a durable printed label which will last a long time. This method is great for shelf labelling or any place where it needs to be durable and not affected by moisture or heat etc. The abbreviation for Thermal Transfer is usually “TT”.
Direct Thermal Printing Method
This method of print uses no label but instead prints on special Thermal Paper labels. These prints are usually clear and crisp but do not last as long as the TT method and are easily affected by heat, moisture and scuffing. The abbreviation for Direct Thermal is normally “DT”.
Features of the CP-2140EX
As earlier stated the CP-2140EX from Argox is a great entry level printer that can be used to print on a variety of labels that need Text, QR Codes or any type of Barcode.
