The following is a short tutorial to help you get started with using Bartender UL that ships with the Argox Label Printers and some other makes.
This will answer a few questions for new users that have purchased new printers
Initial Setup of Bartender UL
You will be starting a new label so choose “Blank Template” to start the wizard – Click Next
Choose the model of Printer that you have installed (In our case the Argox OS214Plus Series PPLB) and click Next
As you are starting a new Label choose “Specify Custom Settings” and click Next
On this page you can set the layout of the label which I will explain a bit further down. For now select “Single Item Per Page” and click Next
Here you can set the size of the backing material that extends around the label. For now just leave the settings as they are and click Next
Most labels have either staring corners or slightly rounded corners as shown on the right. Choose the applicable setting for your label and select Next
The above lets you enter the size of the label you will be using in mm. In the above example the width of the label from left to right is 101.5 mm and the height from top to bottom is 152.4 mm. Measure your label and enter the dimensions. Click Next
Generally nothing needs to be selected on this screen unless you want to experiment with the different settings. I suggest just selecting Next
The above screen just really gives you a recap on what the label sizes are and what printer it will print to. You can click on Finish.
Great! the setup has been done and you are ready to add Text and Barcodes to your label.
Once you have added the content to your label and are happy with the layout – you are ready to print the label.
Select the Print Icon in the top bar and the above box appears. Check that the correct printer appears, Enter the number of copies you want to print, it is initially set to 1. Click the Print button and your label should print.
Changing Other Settings in Bartender UL
Below are the most common settings that need to be changed as per client requests.
Changing the printer to work in either TT or DT mode
The majority of the Argox Thermal Transfer (TT) Label Printers can print in Direct Thermal (DT- no ribbon) mode. If you want to use the printers in DT mode you need special thermal paper labels. The software/Driver has to be changed to allow printing in this mode. If you use the printer without changing these settings you will get Ribbon Out error messages.
To change the setting click on the Print icon in the top bar. Once that opens click on “Document Properties”. It will open a new box
In this box select the “Stock” option in the tab. Next to Print Method select the drop down and select Direct Thermal and click OK. The box will close and you can print. The software will send the command telling the printer it is in Direct Thermal (DT mode) and the ribbon sensor will be disabled.
If you need to change the printer back to Thermal Transfer mode just repeat the above steps and in the drop down box select “Thermal Transfer”
Printing on labels in 2 or more columns
If your labels are next to each other or in 2 columns then you need to set Bartender UL to print on each label.
On the upper left corner click on “File” and then “Page Setup”. In the block that opens set the total width of the labels from left to right. Set the height from top to bottom.
Now select the “Layout’ tab and the above box will open. Now select how many columns you need. In the above example we have two labels side by side. Once done click on OK and print. The printer should now print on both labels.
